Khosrow II and the collapse of the Sassanid Empire
The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) sent a letter to Khosrow II, inviting him to join Islam. A Sahabi, Abdullah ibn Hudhafah carried the letter to the palace of the ruler of Bahrain who then delivered the letter to Khosrow II.
When Khosrow II saw the letter, he was displeased to see that the Prophet (ﷺ) had written his name before his. Khosrow II tore the letter to shreds out of anger.

When the Prophet, peace be upon him, heard that Khosrow II had tore the letter, he said "Even so, shall Allah destroy his kingdom".
This would indeed become true later on.

The Sassanid Empire suffered a great defeat at the hands of the Byzantines. The Byzantines were another non-Muslim (Christian) empire who were rivals with the Sassanians. Dissensions also appeared in the Sassanid ranks.
Eventually, the son of Khosrow II, Kavad II, imprisoned his father and later on, executed him. Khosrow II's stomach was torn to shreds like how he had torn the letter.
The Sassanian Civil War of year 628 until year 632 broke out. This civil war occured between three royal factions and contributed to the weakening of the Sassanid Empire. Yazdegerd III was eventually crowned as the new king.
The civil wars and unrest within the Sassanid Empire would continue...
...until the Rashidun Caliphate arrived to the lands of Persia and easily defeated the weak armies of Yazdegerd III. The Sassanians lost, and Zoroastrian religion was annihilated.

In the end, the Sassanid Empire was completely destroyed, and once the Zoroastrian religion was gone, Islam spread throughout Persia. Many Persians converted to Islam.
Many, many years after this all happened, great Muslim scholars of Ahlul Sunnah would also be born in Persia.
