“Only Muslim men alone, if at all, suffered the consequential indignities but the Muslim women – never!” wrote Savarkar in the book "Six glorious epoch of Indian History. Savarkar had this perverted idea that Muslim women to be raped and taught a lesson.
On 18 Sept 1969, Muslims gathered in Jamalpur, Ahmedabad for an Urs festival. Whn 2 sadhus of nearby Jagannath temple tried to bring their cows back to the temple compound thru crowded streets, some Muslim women wer injured.
The cows also allegedly damaged some carts. It led to a clash & some Muslim youth attacked 2 sadhus, These injured sadhus came back with more men to retaliate, which made the issue bigger, resulting clashes & stone-pelting broke the temple windows.
Rioters attacked Muslim Religious places which eventually led to a mass breakout of violence. The riots then spread to other areas, notably Vadodara, Mehsana, Nadiad, Anand,& Gondal.
A curfew was imposed on the evening of 19 September, and on the next day, the army was called in to control the violence. By 26 Sept, the violence reduced. some more violent incidents occured during 18–28 October 1969.
In its report (Publd in 1971) It questioned Police's role in the pogrom. It found 6 Muslim religious places adjoining Police lines or stations being attacked or damaged. Overall, 37 Masjids, 50 dargahs, 6 kabristans (Muslim graveyards) and 3 temples were destroyed

Gujarat saw 800 instances of communal violence in 1960s. Ahmedabad has long been split along caste and religious lines, but it wasn't until the 1960s that it became a Communally sensitive city

One of the worst allegations is that Popular Front of India (PFI) was plotting to assassinate RSS-BJP PM Modi. This is the same allegation levied against the Bhima Koregaon 16, a collection of academics/activists known for dissenting against RSS-BJP policies.
These PFI members, across multiple states, are being rounded up and held under draconian legislation that allows for arrest and indefinite detention without charges. This comes as international experts warn the RSS-BJP is on the verge of staging an anti-Muslim genocide in India.
While the PFI has been accused — perhaps credibly — in a small handful of violent incidents, they are being targeted by an RSS-BJP regime which is far more credibly accused in multiple MASS incidents of violence rising to the level of pogroms.
Indeed, it was only after the RSS-BJP led 1992 illegal demolition of the Babri Mosque (which sparked anti-Muslim riots that left possibly thousands dead) that the PFI really gained any traction.
As the PFI is accused of extremism, it cannot be forgotten that impunity for the extremism of the now ruling Hindu nationalist movement fertilized its growth. Anyone who believes PFI is extremist must understand the only way to successfully deal with it is to confront RSS-BJP.
For every action, there is a reaction. PFI arose in reaction to the intolerant fascism of the RSS-BJP; should that Hindu nationalist movement, which now holds the reins of power, face suitable repercussions, PFI may likely fade away.
Arbitrary arrests, trumped up charges, indefinite detention, show trials (or no trials), torture, extrajudicial executions, and the like — all of which are already occurring or likely to occur in this case — will not, however, do anything but amplify the problem.
