"What's the number 1 skill in 2022?"
ANS - Copywriting
I'm no PRO ...but here are 5 basic tips you wish you knew sooner about copywriting ๐Ÿงต๐Ÿงต
Just so we're on the same page:
Q: What is Copywriting?
A: The use of the written word to STOP and get the reader to take a specific action
Q: Is this related to Copyright?
A: No
Q: Why is this important?
The internet is built on 4 legs with one common name: Writing.
All forms of medium you consume daily stemmed from writing.
Audio? They're read from scripts
Video? They're acted from scripts
Images? They're picturized from scripts
Scripts = Writing.
Now... Lets roll:
At the end of this thread you would:
- Have a little idea of what copywriting is
- have 5 foundations to act on
- steal 2 formulas for writing powerful headlines
+ examples all the way
Let's get you these wins:
1. Rule of One
Keep the copy smooth like it is a one-on-one conversation (which it actually is from the readers point of view)
The rule says:
Write for
- One Person
- One Problem
- One Solution
To do this effectively:
You need to have a good understanding of your target audience.
Ex: I'm writing this right now because i know my audience will be interested in this.
What you need
- an ideal customer avatar
- to find where they congregate
- ...and how to attract them to follow you or etc
2. K.I.S.S.
Keep It Sweet & Simple
The average reading age is 12. There is almost no need for big words.
Simple = Strong
Use โœ…
Utilise โŒ
Search โœ…
Rummage โŒ
Repeat โœ…
Reiterate โŒ
Take advantage of โœ…
Capitalize โŒ
Explain โœ…
Expantiate โŒ
3. The "Slippery Slope" Technique
The idea here is:
"The goal of the first sentence is to get the reader to the next one"
This could be done using
โ€ข Curiosity hooks
โ€ข One-line paragraphs
โ€ข Short, Incomplete sentences
4. Specific = Secret
Remember... This is written to one person. There should be no generalism.
Being specific also shows proof in your claim.
Ex:
Hey bro โœ…
Hey People โŒ
I'll teach you how to steal โŒ
Here's how we're gonna steal $44,147,000 from the Royal Mint of Spain โœ…
Two important lines you might want to tattoo on your wrist:
1. If you write to everyone... You write to no one
2. 90% of people should not understand what you're writing
โ†‘ I have a lot to learn here
5. Benefit over Features
You humans are more emotional than logical
Want to speak WORSE?
- Tell them everything about your product
โ€ข Date created
โ€ข Why you made it
โ€ข Number of people involved,etc
Want to speak BETTER?
- Find their desires and lean into it
Desire = Benefit
Ex:
Get better at talking to girls โŒ
Have women cling to your every word at the bar โœ…
Get better at writing copy โŒ
Write emails so good you'll be forced to put your phone on "do-not-disturb" to stop the alert notifications from deafening you โœ…
BONUS: Here are the two Frameworks i and most experts use for Twitter thread hooks (including this one)
1. AIDA
2. PAS
1. AIDA
A - Attention
I - Interest
D - Desire
A - Action
An example โ†“
2. PAS
P - Problem
A - Agitate
S - Solution
