Use this exact framework to overcome urges and cravings for porn in less than 5 minutes:
First you need to understand something:
There is a difference between urges and cravings.
They are not the same thing.
Knowing the difference allows you to use an effective strategy to overcome it.
URGES
The urge to watch porn is not the urge to watch porn.
It is the urge to release negative emotional tension.
The negative emotional tension stems from stress, anxiety, loneliness, etc
Stress is both an emotional and physical tension felt in the body.
Urges happen when you are under stress.
Understand this:
It is easier to watch porn than release tension in a healthy way.
The brain is lazy. It wants to release tension in the easiest way possible.
But watching porn does not release tension. It creates more of it.
Your subconscious mind has been programmed by porn.
When you are stressed the subconscious tells your brain to watch porn.
This is why desire to release tension registers as an "urge" to watch porn.
CRAVINGS
Cravings for porn are not cravings for porn.
They are cravings for dopamine.
Beyond that they are cravings for excitement and pleasure.
Cravings stem from the chemical wiring in your reward system created by porn use.
Cravings happen when you are bored, trying to focus, or trying to release.
This is because dopamine plays a crucial role in all of those functions.
When you watch porn you increase your tolerance to dopamine.
This means you need more to feel the same way.
Instead of get dopamine in a healthy way (healthy ways of being excited, focused, or relaxed)
Your brain has been hardwired by porn to watch porn for dopamine.
Because porn is EASY dopamine.
You get cravings when you are low on dopamine.
Porn is the easy option.
It's easier to watch porn than go to the gym to blow steam.
It's easier to watch porn than make a healthy meal or get sunlight.
Porn addiction is a disease of comfort and complacency.
This is why the life of a porn addict sucks and isn't fulfilling.
How do you tell the difference between urges and cravings?
The difference is where you feel them in your body.
Urges are felt as tension in the chest (most commonly).
Cravings are felt as a buzzing sensation in your head (most commonly).
Now that you know:
- The root cause of both urges and cravings
- The difference between the way urges and cravings feel in the body
You are ready to learn the end-all strategy for overcoming each:
How to Overcome Urges in less than 5 Minutes:
Step 1) Identify the source
The most common sources of urges are:
- Stress
- Anxiety
- Loneliness
- Depression
- Frustration
Ask yourself:
"What am I trying to escape from with porn?"
This will reveal the source of the urge.
Step 2)
Now that you know the source you can choose a course of action.
Ask yourself:
"Can I do something about the source of this tension?"
The answer is always YES.
The best thing to do 9/10 is open up a journal and start writing.
This provides a release for the tension.
Step 3) Take action
Journaling acts as a way to release tension
But also to figure out what you can do about it.
Brainstorm ways you can release the tension.
Once you figure out the best possible way to do that
Commit to it and take action.
Step 4) Repition
The more you follow steps 1-3 the more effective it becomes.
Why?
Because it replaces your old response to urges (watching porn)
With a new response to urges (releasing tension in a healthy way)
Repetition rewires your subconscious mind.
How to Overcome Cravings in less than 5 Minutes:
Step 1)
Recognize that the cravings you feel mean your brain is healing.
Cravings are a positive sign that means this process is working.
You are one step closer to freedom when you are craving.
Step 2) Change your cravings
When you get cravings it also means you can change what you get cravings for.
How?
Instead of pursuing porn:
- Go for a walk
- Hit the gym
- Go out
- Do some work
- Talk with friends
- Get sunlight
- Eat a steak
You will begin to crave these.
Step 3)
Again, you must commit to taking action.
If you want to change the way your brain responds to cravings you must give it what it is actually cravings.
You have needs deeper than porn.
The more you get those needs met the less you watch porn.
You can execute both of these strategies in less than 5 minutes.
When you feel the tension in your chest it means you want to journal.
When you feel buzzing in your head it means you want to live.
Short circuit the bad programming by replacing it with good programming.
These are strategies I have taught 100s of men.
They use these and they quit.
