1. Work politics in nursing is real, learn how to play this game
2. Don't outshine your senior colleagues, they will set you up
3. Workplace gossips will only land you in BIG trouble
4. The computer system you're working with will most likely crash or slow down at the point you're very busy trying to get things done supper fast. Don't stress it.
5. Befriend the MDT. Doctors, OT, pharmacist, physios etc. You will have access to quick update to enhance patient's care.
6. Leave work at work, don't bring it home
7. So many things will get you scared, never show your patients you're scared.
8. Don't ever tell the patient you don't know, they will lose confidence in you, rather tell them, you're gonna have a look / find out
9. Don't give empty promises
10. Never pity your patients, empathize instead.
11. Ask for your break, book your leave, if you don't ask, you may not get it.
12. Never type or write when you're angry, it may get you in big trouble.
13. Stop all nursing works when someone got you pissed off or made you angry at work, you can make errors. Find a safe place to let it out first.
14. If it's not written down, it is not done.
15. Keep a personal work diary
16. Never steal or use medications at work, especially narcotics, it can land you in jail.
17. Know your hospital policy by heart, it will safe you from trouble.
18. Ask if unsure, no one knows it all.
19. Don't use your phone while working, people are watching you.
20. Never compromise standards and think no one sees you. The patients themselves know what's right.
21. Always pray before you take over the shift.
22. Delegation is not responsibility/ accountability
23. Have a good relationship with colleagues
24. If you use the last stock of supply, replace it or order another one
25. Physically take over your patients and be sure there responsive, don't take over dead patient.
26. Communicate your documentation and document your communication
27. No one got your back ,everyone is at work to make a living and probably get promotion.
28. Never compromise patients safety,
29. The patients are the kings and queens, you're there to serve.
