[THREAD]
If you follow South American football, there’s no way that you haven’t heard of the CF from Athletico Paranaense:
Vitor Roque, one of the world's most exciting prospects born in 2005.
In this thread, I’ll be analyzing the player. Enjoy!
Background
Vitor Roque grew up at Cruzeiro as an either-footed winger, before becoming a CF later on.
In October 2021, when he was 16 years old, he made his Serie B debut for his childhood club.
6 months later, he became Athletico Paranaense's top transfer: R$ 24M (~€4.6M).
Style of play
Vitor Roque is either-footed and is a dynamic CF.
Sometimes, he just stays forward, and in some cases, drops deep to be involved in the build-up. Can also be an RW/LW/SS.
In most cases, he's a '9' in a 4-2-3-1 formation who likes to drift wide to the right flank.
Movements
Vitor Roque has a brilliant off-the-ball movement, and he shows it in various ways/areas:
- drops deep to link up/create a positional play.
- moves within the final third to link up.
- drops to carry into space.
- sprints, he's a pure counter-attack threat.
Dynamism.
Physique
At 172cm, his lower body is very strong, which contributes to hold-up play as it's hard to knock him off the ball.
Yet, he tends to fall a lot and is weak in duels, which can be explained by his not-so-developed upper body and poor jumping.
Fast, agile, and can burst.
Technique
I may sound insane, but I do have some doubts about his technique.
Well, he has to work on his first touch & passing, tends to make simple mistakes with the ball which result in losing possession/not scoring.
Yet, his ball control while holding/carrying - quality.
Dribbling
Although it isn't so smooth, it's at a high level.
With the support of his own body balance and low center of gravity, he likes to change his direction and win the duel or to get fouled, which is basically the same.
If he beats you in a 1v1 at Zone 14, bad for you.
Finishing
Although he's either-footed, in terms of finishing Victor feels more comfortable with his right foot, with only 8,5% attempts using the left foot this season.
As for his ball-striking, it's powerful and precise, and he's confident of his capabilities from long range.
As I mentioned earlier, he isn't that good in the air, and it also comes to his heading game.
In fact, you saw 12 missed shots inside the penalty area in the previous tweet, time to tell that 10 out of them are headers.
Yet, his most important goal ever was actually a header.
Decision making
For a 17-year-old who plays his first season in the first division, the efficiency of his decisions is OK, but normally, I would say it's poor.
Should release the ball sooner, pick the right passes, avoid dribbling when it's unnecessary, and not waste chances.
Summary
In conclusion, it's clear that Vitor Roque is an extremely good footballer for his age, it's impossible to take from him what he's done at 17 years old.
Obviously, the best football clubs in the world, such as FC Barcelona, are keen on securing this top talent.
SAMBA.
