Vanaras composed of multiple races on both Paternal as well as Maternal side by Ramayana Era.
Maternally Apsaras, Yakshinis, Gandharvas, Vidyadharas, Pannagas (Nagas), Rikshas, Kinnaris & THEN their own "Vanaris".
Paternally Rishis, Siddhas, Vidyadharas, Vanacharis (Vanjaris).
They ALWAYS had Anthropoid physique.
Vanara heroes were direct descendants of Vedic Devas.
Indra: Vali
Surya: Sugriva
Brihaspati: Tara
Kubera: Gandhamaadana
Vishvakarma: Nala
Agni: Nila
Ashwini Bros: Mainda & Dvivida
Varuna: Susheshana
Parjanya: Sharabha
Pavan: Hanuman
Jain Ramayana further rationalises or rather legitimizes them as Humans.
Jain Munis describe 4 Kshatriya Vanshas: Suryavansha, Somavansha, Harivansha & Vidyadharavansha.
Vanaras are considered proper Vidyadharas (of Nagavansh) who simply had clans organized with Monkey Banners.
Sant Ekanath Maharaja further legitimizes even Hanuman as being Ikshvakuvanshi, by stating that a portion of the Payasam bestowed by Agni to Maharaja Dasharatha was carried away by a Bird (soaring through AIR, Vayu) to Anjaneri where Anjani Mata consumed it & conceived Hanuman.
This Deccani version of Hanuman being linked to Bhagwan Shri Rama and by extension the Ikshvakuvansha is further extrapolated in all South-East Asian versions of Ramayana as well.
