Hawaiian pizza isn't 'Hawaiian' but a colonizer's invention to make tons of money in collaboration with Dole, who helped overthrow our sovereign country, resulting in genocide of Hawaiians, banning our culture, language, etc. (Neither is 'Hawaiian spaghetti')
It was created in Canada by a Sam Panopoulos, who used pineapples Hawaiian Canned Pineapple Co.. HCPC a brand of the now Dole Food Corporation, a company founded by James Dole, cousin of Sanford Dole - a wealthy oligarch who collaborated with the US military to steal our country.
Pineapples, not at all native to Hawaii, were instilled in the world as 'Hawaiian' by Dole's global marketing. He made millions selling his near-slave-labor grown pineapples while he & his cousin helped suppress Hawaiian language & culture, stripping us of our wealth and dignity.
The ads depicted sexualized Hawaiian women, and spread the idea that 'brown people make great servants'. The US military bought tons of pineapples and pushed cook books as well.
Dole & his fellow US-backed barons hyper-exploited non-white workforces on their plantations. Living in 'barracks' with 5 men sardine-packed into 10 square feet, the 'servants' did grueling labor for negligible pay.
Later, in the 1970s, Dole Corporation teamed up with the Marcos dictatorship that assisted Dole's stealing of ancestral Moro and Lumad lands, reproducing the horrific 'Hawaiian' Pineapple Plantation system in the Philippines.
The Pineapple Pestilence in Hawaii continues into the 21st century. In 2003-2007 βWorking conditions were so oppressive at Maui Pineapple that some Thai workers felt that they were treated more like prisoners and slaves,β "thrown against the wall, grabbed & punched in the face."
Since the US-backed coup, Big sugar, pineapple & tourism all received huge government support w/regular beatings & suppression of strikes for predominately non-white workers under extreme colonial-capitalism. Sure, eat pineapples on focaccia bread. But it's not 'Hawaiian pizza'.
