There are 86 days left until the new year.
But there's still time to turn it around.
6 steps to make 2022 the best year of your life:
Here’s what we’re going to cover:
1. Mindset
2. Reflection
3. Vision
4. Targets
5. Systems
6. Progress
Let’s get started.
If you’re like most people, you haven’t achieved your goals for 2022 just yet.
You started the year strong.
New goals.
New energy.
New plans to make this your year.
But you lost sight of your target in just a few months, and now you have no direction.
Sounds familiar?
Now let’s turn it around.
Imagine the possibilities if you accomplished your goals.
What benefits would they bring?
What changes would you observe?
I’m willing to bet that everything in your life would be completely different.
I’ve been in your position before.
But with a few simple methods, I’ve found a way to accomplish any goal that I set my mind to, and also complete it in record time.
And today I’m going to show you 6 ways to help you do the same.
1. Mindset
With under 3 months to work with, time is of the essence.
If you’ve made some progress this year, fantastic. If you’re yet to get started, don’t worry.
It doesn’t matter what stage you’re at.
What matters is your mindset and work ethic.
Here are the numbers:
• 86 days
• 12.2 weeks
• 2064 hours
If you work on your goal for two hours each day, you will have put in 172 hours of effort.
Regardless of your goal, this is more than enough time to get you closer to where you want to be.
Whether your goals are to:
• Learn a skill
• Develop new habits
• Start your own business
It doesn’t matter.
Decide that no matter what happens, you will adopt the right approach, work ethic, and mentality so that this year turns out in your favour.
2. Reflection
With most of the year completed, take some time to analyse:
• What went well?
• What did you learn?
• What can you do better?
This might be hard at first.
But just remember that if you learn from your mistakes, they can become your most valuable lessons.
I would recommend performing this exercise in a note taking app or journal.
Keep it handy and make it a weekly review ritual.
This will serve as guidance any time you've lost your momentum.
3. Vision
Let's get to the good stuff.
If you’re like most people, you’ve left a lot to be desired in 2022.
You might not be concerned about this right now, so let's put this into perspective.
Write down what your life would look like 86 days from now if you continue down your current path.
Then ask yourself:
• How does this make you feel?
• Is this really where you want to be?
At this point, you've probably decided it's time to change course.
Then describe how your ideal life would look in 86 days if your goals were achieved.
You've now visualised your future on two different paths.
On one side, you’ve followed your current trajectory.
The other, you’ve made changes and taken action.
Which one do you prefer?
4. Targets
Let’s identify what you’ll be working towards.
Most of your goals should come under the following categories:
• Health - physical and mental health
• Wealth - businesses and career
• Passions - hobbies and habits
• Relationships - bond with loved ones
Rank each area on a scale of 1 to 10.
1 being the worst and 10 being the best.
For example:
• Health 7
• Wealth 3
• Passions 5
• Relationships 10
This gives you a fresh perspective on the areas where you should focus your attention.
Let’s take it a step further.
Write down 5 things you could do this year to improve each area of your life.
For example:
• Lose 5 kilograms
• Learn a new instrument
• Spend more time with family
By the end, you should have about 20 different targets to work towards.
But as David Allen once said:
“You can do anything, but not everything.”
Ruthlessly eliminate items from that list until you have just 5 targets left.
These are your priority goals, and these are what you're going to stick to.
Your top 5 goals must now be modified according to the smart framework:
• Specific
• Measurable
• Attainable
• Realistic
• Time bound
This is a crucial step so don't skip it.
Here’s an example:
Let's say one of your goals is to start a business.
This is too broad, so let's make it smart:
"I will start an online business that helps people lose 5kgs in 60 days, by crafting an offer, creating traffic, and sending 100 cold DMs every day."
See the difference?
5. Systems
James Clear once said:
"You don't rise to the level of your goals, you fall to the level of your systems."
Simply put, you must develop sustainable mechanisms if you want to accomplish your goals.
Let me show you how it’s done.
Consider the actions that will get you to where you need to be.
If we take the same example:
• 100 cold dm’s
• Create a landing page
• Validate and perfect your offer
• Publish content on social media
These are absolute non-negotiables and must be a part of your routine.
Now let’s incorporate the 3x3 rule.
• 3 priorities for the month
• 3 priorities for the week
• 3 priorities for the day
Distil your non-negotiable actions based on time and plan out how you’re going to progress over the coming days, weeks and months.
Remember the 172 hours of focused work?
Schedule these into your calendar right away.
Split them into two-hour blocks to fit your schedule and add them to your google calendar.
Turn your actions into routines and you'll start to notice daily progress towards your goal.
6. Progress
Everything is now ready to go.
You've set up your priorities.
You've created smart goals.
You've identified your core actions.
We're now going to schedule a time to assess your results over the remainder of the year.
Every two weeks, set aside 30 minutes into your calendar to repeat the reflection exercise in step two.
If you’re on track to achieve your goal, no changes are necessary.
If you’re not moving the needle, it’s time to switch things up.
Remember:
“What we measure, we improve.”
If you’ve followed each of the steps, you’re well on track to hit your goals.
Ask yourself how can you achieve your goal in half the time.
You could add another hour of work to your schedule or double down on your core actions.
Try it out and watch your goals come to life.
