What is this, and what disease does it cause in humans?
(You probably see this in Onions, but don't know it is so dangerous)
Answers drops later๐Ÿ˜‰
The Black thing shown in the Onions below is a Fungi called ASPERGILLUS NIGER
(see a lab picture below)
It can grow on Certain food products like Onions, peanut, grapes giving the characteristic Black colour because of the pigment it produces (Melanin) in its spore walls
When it is inhaled it can cause a form of serious lung disease called ASPERGILLOSIS (not very common in people with strong immunity) but can be serious in people with Asthma, Diabetes,Lung disease, HIV, on Steroids or chemo, etc
Also cause an ear infection called OTOMYCOSIS
Studies have also shown that some Species of Aspergillus Niger produce a dangerous Toxin called OCHRATOXIN which can cause Damage of the Kidneys
More studies are still trying to link it with its role in Cancer
Here is a link
pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov
In the same family is the more deadlier ASPERGILLUS FLAVUS.
This one is commonly seen in spoilt tomatoes, which has become a lot of restaurant favourites called ATA ESHA as they are cheap and can be bought in a large quantity to make soups for a large quantity
Aspergillus Flavus produces a toxin called Aflatoxin.
These chemicals are difficult to destroy even with Heat or cooking
Aflatoxins are known to cause Cancer of the Liver, Acute Hepatitis, Reduce the Immunity
A reason not to buy Cheap spoilt tomatoes in the Market.
So unhealthy
