It's estimated that up to 70% of people experience imposter syndrome at some point.
Here are the 10 steps to overcome it:
1. Acknowledge your feelings
The first step to overcoming imposter syndrome is to acknowledge it.
❌ ... Don't bottle things up and pretend like it's not affecting you.
This will help you deal with it.
2. Talk about it with someone you trust
One of the best ways to deal with imposter syndrome is to talk about it.
This can help you:
1. Get it off your chest
2. Get outside perspectives
3. Gain confidence from your friends
3. Write down your accomplishments
The best way to combat imposter syndrome:
Keep track of your accomplishments.
Whenever you achieve something, big or small, write it down.
This will remind you and give your confidence.
4. Compare yourself to yourself
One of the worst things you can do with imposter syndrome:
Comparing yourself to others.
This will only make you feel worse about yourself and like you are not good enough.
Look at how far you have come and the progress you have made.
5. Give yourself credit
Another way to combat imposter syndrome:
Give yourself credit where it is due.
Too often, we downplay our successes.
... Even when others give us compliments.
Start accepting them and give yourself credit.
6. Focus on the process, not the outcome
It's easy to get caught up in the outcome.
But often this leads to frustration.
Learn to enjoy the process.
7. Set Realistic Goals
If you are constantly setting unrealistic goals, you set yourself up for failure.
That creates the feeling of not feeling good enough.
But if you set achievable goals, you will more likely reach them.
... And feel good about those accomplishments
8. Don't strive for Perfection
Nobody and nothing is perfect.
That's why it's crucial to strive for PROGRESS, not perfection.
Compare your results to your own results yesterday, a week ago, or a year ago.
9. Take breaks
When we feel overwhelmed or stressed, it can be easy to push ourselves too hard.
But this can often make things worse.
Instead of pushing yourself, take some time to relax and rejuvenate.
10. Be patient with yourself
Last but not least, be patient with yourself.
Overcoming imposter syndrome takes time.
Remember that you are doing your best and that progress takes time.
