If you struggle with burnout, open this:
1. Get mission focused
You lack priorities when you don't have a clear mission. Which means that you do busy work instead of *meaningful* work.
Having a clear mission or goal helps you get laser-focused on what you need to do. This will preserve your energy and focus.
2. Prioritize your sleep
Poor sleep amplifies problems and makes them appear worse than they are.
Plus, you lack the energy and resilience to overcome your challenges.
Keeping your phone out of your bedroom and prioritizing sleep will help you recover quickly from burnout.
3. Start journaling
It can be hard to figure out what’s causing your burnout when you’re in the middle of it. There are conflicting emotions and everything seems to bring your energy down.
Journaling is a great way to get clarity and relief on what may be driving your burnout.
4. Look at internal vs external factors
Are you burned out because you hate your job or don’t like where you live?
Maybe you’re happy with work and where you live - so it may be more internal.
We tend to think burnout comes from external factors when often it’s internal.
5. Be kind to yourself
Burnout s a symptom that something’s not right. It’s an opportunity for you to grow so you avoid burnout in future.
Beating yourself up isn’t going to make you feel better.
Would you treat a close friend the way you treat yourself when feel burned out?
6. Disconnect
Taking a few days off work sounds like a terrible idea to a society that’s addicted to effort.
I’ve found that if I give myself a few days off, my natural motivation and energy return.
Work will always be there, but you only get one body. Health is wealth.
7. Do something fun
If you’re suffering from burnout, you’ve likely been all business recently.
Life doesn’t have to be serious all the time. Doing something enjoyable will energize you and take your mind off the situation.
Improvise, be spontaneous and let go a little.
8. Don’t judge yourself
It’s easy to tell yourself that you shouldn’t feel this way and that you can’t afford to have low energy right now.
You are where you are and that's ok.
Self-condemnation is the last thing you need when you feel like crap.
9. Go out into nature
Leaving the house is likely the last thing you want to do when you’re burned out.
But getting out into nature is healing.
Go wherever you feel best - mountains, the ocean, woods. Mother Nature will rejuvenate you quicker than anything else.
10. Eat well
When you feel burned out, the knee-jerk reaction is to reach for comfort foods to feel better.
This only makes you feel worse and perpetuates burnout.
Make it a point to eat well, as this will help you recover (even if it doesn’t feel like it at the time).
