🚨Introduction to keywords for beginners and how you can use them to increase your sales🚨
A Thread⏬
Before I start, keywords can be either single/few words (short tail) or a longer series of words (long tail)
'Christmas book' would be a short tail keyword
'Christmas colouring book for boys aged 10' would be a long tail keyword
IMO a good keyword strategy should include both
Now there are 2 main places you can put your keywords in terms of SEO:
1) In your title/subtitle
2) In your 7 keyword boxes
The SEO pull is the strongest in your title/subtitle and therefore it's super important to use correct keywords in your title
Because long tail keywords are more specific/targeted, these are the keywords that should be used in your title/subtitle.
Longtails can also be used in your 7 keyword boxes but remember you want to leave space for short tails in there too
So how can you find these long tails?
The best place to start is to look at competing book titles/subtitles
Are there common phrases they are all using?
Are there common words they are all using?
A lot of these common words/phrases can be combined to make new long tails
You can test these new long tails by putting them into Amazon and seeing if they come up as a recommended search
If they do, then you know customers are searching for that
Trial and error until you find a few of these
Now decide which you want to put in your title/subtitle
Now you also want to make sure you have enough short tail keywords
Because these aren't specific phrases, I always use the most common words used by competitors/similar books
For a Christmas book these might be:
'festive', 'holidays', 'xmas', 'christmas' etc...
In the 7 keyword boxes, Amazon will read across multiple boxes and combine words
So if you have 'christmas' in one box and 'gift' in another, Amazon would combine them to make the phrase 'christmas gift'
So don't worry about having to have related keywords in the same boxes
The goal of a good keyword strategy is to have a balance of both long-tail and short-tail keywords
Long tails will benefit your book for specific search term SEO, whereas short tails will combine with each other to increase reach and book exposure
A bonus for Q4 is to include lots of gift-themed short tail keywords
'gag gift', 'stocking filler', 'secret santa' etc are being searched into Amazon millions of times a day at the moment
These keywords are FREE SALES at this time of year
Cram them into your last keyword box
There is a lot more depth you can go into for keywords that wouldn't even fit in a thread, so I'm going also going to be releasing a video on keywords (more depth and demos) on Monday 17th on my YouTube so make sure you're subscribed to see that🔥
