"The average Northerner needs somebody who is from the North" isn't a neutral thing to say in Nigeria.
Atiku supporters on Twitter have dragged westerners who want to support BAT based on region. Now a CANDIDATE is doing it.
As a non-Northerner, it gives me pause.
So me, the average Southerner, who do I need?
Meanwhile, the same Atiku and the same people defending him today, are the same ones who for MONTHS have been telling us "ZoNiNg DoEsN'T mAtTeR".
When Southeasterners complained that the Presidency should be zoned to the Southeast, they were shamed as ethnic sectarians who are forcing a tribalised prism on our politics.
Now people want to shrug at the UNIFIER saying the North will vote for a Northerner.
To clear your doubts, he added the northerner "doesn't need a yoruba candidate, or an Igbo candidate".
Ehy didn't he add "or a Hausa/Fulani/Kanuri candidate"?
Because his point wasn't that ethnicity doesn't matter (as some are claiming) but that southern candidate isn't wanted.
Peter Obi who told Igbo people "don't vote for me because I'm Igbo; vote for me because xyz", does he have 2 heads?
Maybe.
