Most studies find that power makes us worse people. But why?
In an experiment called "the dictator game", one person is assigned to be the dictator and decides how to split a pot of money among the people in the experiment.
Researchers found that as power increased, so did selfish behavior. In the high-power condition, dictators were more likely to take the money for themselves.
The researchers also found that those with high levels of testosterone were especially likely to take the money for themselves.
Power doesn't just corrupt, it also makes you more of a hypocrite.
So if you're in a position of power, beware!
