In June 2011, Human Rights organisations cast doubt on these claims of mass rape by Gaddafi's forces.

Iman al-Obeidi burst into Rixos Hotel, where she knew foreign journalists were staying, screaming that she'd been gang raped and strangled by Gaddafi troops. Her claim was never corroborated but she becomes a western media sensation

In 2015, in Boulder, Colorado, Al-Obeidi was arrested on a second-degree assault charge. She'd been arrested three times before for disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and assault.
