1. I found a book I enjoyed...a book I chose, not one that a teacher required.

2. I started journaling.
For me, journaling was the entry drug to a full-fledged addiction to writing.
Stop putting pressure on yourself. There's no "right way" to journal. Just start.

3. I started a newsletter. I wrote inconsistently at first but eventually, I wrote once a month and then every other week and now I write and publish once a week.
This gave me massive opportunity to get better.

4. I studied (and continute to study) great writers.
I didn't read books that taught me "How to write betterβ...those books put me to sleep.
Whenever I read a book I loved, I asked myself, "What do I love about the way this author writes?"
I was and I am, insanely curious.

Three of my favorite authors are Elizabeth Gilbert who wrote Big Magic, Tara Westover who wrote Educated and @meganphelps who wrote Unfollow.

A year and a half ago I started writing on Twitter every day. I rarely miss.
I've written a dozen threads that have gone viral and one has reached over 14 million impressions on Twitter alone. It also went viral on Facebook and Instagram.

@meganphelps The thing I LOVE about Twitter is the immediate feedback. Within an hour or certainly within 24 hours, I can see what resonates with people who follow me.
