I grew my first Shopify App to $1,000 MRR when I was 20.
But I didn't grow it more than that.
Here is the biggest mistake I've made:
In 2017 I launched my first Shopify App (It wasn't WideBundle)
And after a few weeks I reached $1,000 MRR.
But I made a terrible mistake
I wasn't tracking my data!
The idea for this app came from 2 friends.
They were merchants so they knew what to build.
But they didn't know anything about SaaS.
So they didn't tell me to track my data.
At $1,000 we reached a plateau. We were not growing anymore.
The 2 friends left the project because they were making more money with their business.
And I tried everything to grow again.
I tried to communicate more about the product but it didn't work.
I tried to release new features but it didn't work.
I tried to change the app's design but it didn't work.
Nothing I did was working
But in reality, I didn't know what I was doing.
I was just guessing.
I didn't know what was wrong and I still don't know today.
The mistake I made was not installing a tool to track my data
Something like Mixpanel
I could have understood what was wrong with my product
And based on the data I could have made some changes to fix it.
I had the same problem with WideBundle.
But thanks I didn't make the same mistake.
By tracking my data, I understood that the problem was Conversion Rate.
And usually the problem is even before, with activation rate.
We were at 7% Conversion Rate and after improving it we jumped to 40%
And we started to grow.
