Skāndapurāṇa relates the greatness of Mahisāgara-Saṅgama-Tīrtha in Gujarat with a story that opens with an exhortation to certain patita Brāhmaṇas to visit the Tīrtha as Yajñavalkya himself is there. But this is Yajñavalkya in a successive birth. What happened?
Not only is the story hilarious but I think it kind of satisfies at least a few people who would have wondered about Yajñavalkya, given the way he carries himself in many episodes recorded in the Brāhmaṇa & Upaniṣad texts.
It is also ironic that the Brahmavit, known to be ruthless enough to take away the life of an incorrect answerer who had dared to challenge him, was trolled & humbled by a Mongoose…for correctly (to his mind, at least) calling it a Mongoose.😀
