Introducing The Aptos Bridge, powered by LayerZero
A new ecosystem requires the launch of apps, assets, and infrastructure. Along with the launch of LayerZero on Aptos, weβre also introducing The Aptos Bridge. Users will be able to move USDC, USDT, and ETH into Aptos from Etheruem, Arbitrum, Optimism, Avalanche, Polygon, and BSC

Now let's take step back for a minute and talk about what launching in a brand new ecosystem from day 1 means, particularly around what risks come with something so new.

This means we're launching in a way that's different than how we usually approach things given the rapidly evolving nature of the entire chain. Put shortly, we're adding some guardrails for the early days that will be removed over time.
First, Aptos does not have the ability for immutable and mutable contracts to communicate.
To support most applications, the endpoint and the bridge contracts are upgradable -- with the future ability to permanently sunset this and burn the keys (once enabled by Aptos).

Second, we'll be adding a rate limit to the bridge, which is starting at an outbound value cap of $1m every 24 hours. This will increase as stability and time in production increase!
Finally, the bridge will have a 3-day transfer window on withdrawals out of the Aptos ecosystem. Transfers in are extremely fast, transfers out give an ample window to detect any anomalies and keep everybody safe. This will decrease as stability and time in production increase!
Did somebody say security? We'll be continuing our commitment to best-in-class security programs and in addition to LayerZero's outstanding $15m bug bounty on existing chains, we'll be introducing a new bug bounty with up to $2m for the Aptos endpoint and The Aptos Bridge.

There are a few other things to note about the bridge specifically-- mainly that since this is an entirely new ecosystem, native assets outside of the APT token don't exist!
This means the only way to get assets into the ecosystem are via 'wrapped assets' from other chains.

Wrapped assets have different properties than native assets, primarily in that the asset itself carries some of the risk of the underlying bridge.
We will only continue to support wrapped assets until such a time that native assets are introduced into the ecosystem.

LayerZero will then hand over control or facilitate the migration of these contracts to the canonical asset issuer.
Once native issuers have entered the ecosystem, bridges such as @StargateFinance will be able to facilitate native asset transfer between ecosystems.
