Is SEO worth it?
This flowchart will guide you—and it involves asking yourself just two questions:
1️⃣ Are potential customers searching for what I sell or do?
2️⃣ Are potential customers searching for solutions to problems that my business helps to solve?
@samsgoh elaborates👇
1️⃣ Are potential customers searching for what I sell or do?
Open a keyword research tool like Ahrefs' Keywords Explorer, then plug a relevant keyword (e.g. "dog socks").
We can see there are thousands of monthly searches in the US alone for the keyword:
If people aren't really searching for your product or service, ask yourself:
2️⃣ Are potential customers searching for solutions to problems that my business helps to solve?
For example, one of our tools is Content Explorer—a searchable database of billions of webpages.
But people aren't typing "searchable database of billions of webpages" in Google.
Instead, they might search for "how to find content for website", or "how to get backlinks"—two problems that Content Explorer can help to solve.
If these questions have shown that you should invest in SEO, these are your options:
- Hire an agency
- Build an in-house team or outsource to freelancers/consultants
- DIY it (ideal if you have little to no budget)
