For people wanting Trent to play as a right midfielder. I don’t see how that would allow him to do more than he already does from his current role. Moreover, about him being a liability defensively, he can and has easily been covered by others in the past
People wanting Trent in midfield or wide just feel that it would make more sense considering his skill-set but don’t really think about how it would work in a realistic environment. He is also not an efficient ball carrier and there’s no offensive advantage of doing so.
It’s related to people wanting Salah to operate centrally, but many of you forgot that he had his best periods when playing almost from the touchline in buildup and then attacking the penalty box in the final third (see start of 2021/22).
It’s normal to think that playing centrally (for Salah) = more goals and playing higher up (for Trent) = more offensive freedom and less defensive liability. But it’s not as simple as that, football formations on paper don’t mean much.
