Retargeting is the most powerful campaign type on any platform.
But 95% of marketers do it wrong when it comes to google ads.
Here are the 7 building blocks I use to make killer retargeting campaigns.

1. Angle Testing.
Ads you run to hot traffic will be different than ones you run to cold because they’re more aware of your product and its benefits.
Dial in on solving more specific pain points and backing up your claims with a ton of social proof to move people to buy.
2. Hyper-Specific Copy.
Focus less on educating your customers and hone in on relieving them of specific pains or frustrations.
When they’re already aware of your product, selling the lifestyle change will give them the nudge they need to purchase.
3. Customer-Based Product Images.
We want to push as much social proof to warm traffic as we can, even in our product images.
Use photos of the product in action or being used/worn by a customer.
Now you’ve set up your ads.
You need to hit the 3 biggest audiences that will bring in huge ROI.
4. Viewed Site Campaign.
These are people who have viewed your site but didn’t make a purchase.
Typically they perform better than regular cold audience campaigns and will get a way lower CPA.
5. Viewed Page Campaigns.
There are two main ones you want to target:
→ Viewed cart page but not checkout page.
→ Viewed checkout page but not post-purchase checkout page.
These audiences are easy pickings as they’re just a few clicks away from purchasing.
6. Customer Match Campaigns.
This is an audience lookalike campaign, these don’t perform 100% of the time, but they’re definitely worth testing out.
Market to people who are similar to your winning audiences, eg people who purchased etc.
7. A/B Testing.
Retargeting is like every other campaign.
You need to A/B test everything and double up on what works, just don’t test too many things at once or it’ll be hard to see what’s making the difference.
Quick Summary:
1. Angle Testing.
2. Hyper-Specific Copy.
3. Customer-Based Product Images.
4. Viewed Site Campaign.
5. Viewed Page Campaigns.
6. Customer Match Campaigns.
7. A/B Testing.
Nail all these and you'll build killer retargeting campaigns.
That's a wrap!
