How to make a full-time salary working less than 20 hours per week
-Thread-
I worked from home for the last 2 years and doubled my hourly rate
I was also rated a top performer at my job
All while cutting my work week to less than 20 hours
This gave me a chance to work on side projects and spend valuable time with my wife and kids
How did I do it?
Using simple systems that anyone can use
Most people don’t have a plan when they work
They sit at the computer and do whatever they see or think about
This is crazy and terribly inefficient
It’s the reason they struggle to get a week’s worth of work done in 40 hours
It’s the reason they feel overworked, stressed, and unhappy at work and home
If you want:
- Less stress
- More free time
- Higher work quality
And more money for doing so

1. Inbox management
Email is a great tool
But it destroys the quality of your life when used poorly
It steals your attention and distracts you ALL DAY LONG
Look at these stats:
This is how the average person uses email:
- 64% use notifications
- Checks email 11 times/hour
- 84% keep email open all the time
- 70% of emails opened within six seconds
It’s hard to believe they ever accomplish anything meaningful
Don’t be this person
Do this instead 👇
Keep your email closed and check it 3 times each day:
- Morning
- Early afternoon
- Late afternoon
This alone will change your life
Next…
Once you read an email, you MUST do 1 of these:
1. Reply and Archive
2. Action required = Create to-do and Archive
3. No action + Important = Archive
4. No action + Unimportant = Delete
Your to-do can be a calendar event, reminder, or action item
Now your inbox is clear
Manually sorting emails is a waste of time
Especially with recurring information-only emails that require no action
Use automation to do it for you:
- No action + Important = Read + Archive
- No action + Unimportant = Read + Delete
This will save you hours each week
2. Time management
Imagine if you could get 8 hours of work done in 3
You’d have 5 free hours every day
That’s life-changing
Yet most people don’t have any idea how they’re spending their time or what they could do better
82% of people don’t have a dedicated time management system
They go through their day nearly unconscious
You won’t be one of them
You’re going to work with intention so you can create free time that’s devoid of stress
Do this 👇
Become aware
You can’t manage time if you don’t know how you use it
So do this:
Use an app like Toggl for 1 week and track EVERYTHING
This data is crucial
Use it to decide how to invest your time wisely
My 7 golden rules of time management:
1. No distractions
2. No multitasking
3. Plan out your days
4. Batch similar tasks
5. Don’t over commit
6. Always take breaks
7. Focus time is sacred
Bonus: Schedule focus time for 90 to 120 minutes first thing in the morning
3. Task Management
54% of workers spend 5 or more hours per week on tedious tasks and for 16%, it’s 10 or more hours
You can easily save a few hours each week by prioritizing task
Here’s the system 👇
Once you treat everything as a project, your productivity will skyrocket
Use the Value/Effort matrix to pick the best projects to work on
By focusing only on high-value projects, you guarantee a high ROI on your time
The Eisenhower matrix is a classic method for prioritizing tasks
You can use it to:
- Review email and IMs
- Schedule tasks for projects
- Choose your reaction to new information
The rule is simple:
If it’s not important, don’t do it
And if you can’t delegate it to a person, see if you can automate it with tech
4. Meeting management
Many meetings are unavoidable
But here are 5 ways to reduce the time you spend in them:
1. Use agendas
2. Write better emails
3. Send video messages
4. Question the value of a meeting
5. Help other people run better meetings
Meetings often take up a large portion of your workweek
If so, constantly look for ways to reduce them
Find ways to cancel or avoid meetings if you’re not needed
This can give you significant time back to your life
5. People management
It’s frustrating when coworkers disrupt your attention and focus
But there’s a solution:
Set and enforce boundaries
When someone oversteps, correct the action and remind them how you operate
People will adapt to your new way of working
Like it or not, there are office politics when working from home
Play the game and use it to your advantage
Form strategic relationships with people in power and be friendly with everyone
Here’s how to do this 👇
Become invaluable to others:
Do favours → they’ll want to reciprocate
Be likable → people will be more willing to help you
Make people feel their job would be harder without you
They won’t want to see you go
Your time and attention are sacred
When you control them, life is fun and exciting
You get to do things you want with the people you love
When you don’t, you become stressed and frustrated
As if other people control your life instead of you
If you want complete control over your time, use systems to manage your…
- Inbox
- Time
- Tasks
- Meetings
- Coworkers
And you’ll wonder how you ever lived any other way
Do you want to become the most productive and prolific person you know?
While also having the most free time?
If you want extra time to work on a side hustle or spend with your family, I’ll save you 10+ per week hours in the next 90 days, guaranteed
