Women’s Right In Islam : A Historical Perspective — a thread 🧵
Islam had addressed subject of women’s rights over 1400 years long before it became a serious pre-occupation in many other cultures. Many feminist writers and Islamophobes takes interest in condemning the treatment of Muslim women.
The Muslim view of women has been so misrepresented in the west that it is still prevalent idea in Europe and America that Muslims think that women have no souls!
In the holy Quran no difference whatsoever it’s made between the sexes in relation to Allah.
Women in Islam are encouraged to learn - Swimming, Archery, Horse riding .
Both are promised same reward for good and same punishment for evil conduct.
- Quran 33:35
The Quran spoke of different roles women play in life. It for the first time in history established women’s rights to inheritance, respect and dignity. The Quran spoke of women’s role in supporting the truth and giving birth to the prophets and in suffering.
Quran narrated in detail the story of Mary (Maryam ع) & her miraculous birth of Jesus (Isa ع) & how she responded to her people (jews) accusation of being unchaste. Indeed a whole chapter in Quran is named after her. Infact, Quran dedicated whole chapter to ‘The Women’ (An-Nisaa)
It’s right to education in Islam was granted hundreds of years ago when women were exploited & objectified.
• when women were burnt with pyre of husband & enslaved , Islam protected their honours & granted them rights as Human.
Prophet (ﷺ) said: “I urge you to treat women well.”
📚al-Bukhari, 331
Also, “The best of you is the one who is best to his wife..”
• when girl were infanticide Islam honored women as daughters & encouraged to raise ‘em well right & educate them. Prophet ﷺ said “Whoever takes care of two girls until they reach adulthood, he & I will come like this on the Day of Resurrection,” & he held his fingers together.
• when women were treated as others’ property before marriage -in Islam women have the right to own property, to buy and sell, to inherit, to give charity and to give gifts. It is not permissible for anyone to take a woman’s wealth without her consent.
In Islam, women enjoy a high status, whether as daughters, wives or sisters, whilst we acknowledge that there are shortcomings, wrongdoing & neglect of women’s rights among some people.
If you compare other religions treatment (to women) vs Islam, Yet Islam will win.
