It’s taken me 2 years to grow my audience to over 227 000 followers.
But if I had to start over again, I could do it in half the time
How?
By doing these 8 things, most people don’t do:
→ Write to one
You need to help one person:
• Fix their problems
• Achieve their goals
You can’t do that when you try to help everyone.
Write to one person and you’ll write to 1000s.
→ Avoiding shiny object syndrome
When I started writing online, I hopped from niche to niche.
But, like most things, if you want to make an impact in that space, you need to do it consistently.
Choose a niche (I love @thedankoe's idea of a niche of one) and stick to it.
@thedankoe → Writing threads
My 1st year of writing online:
• 4 threads
• 12 000 followers
My 2nd year of writing online:
• At least 2 threads a week, every week
• 210 000 followers
Threads take more effort but provide more value - and in turn, you get more value.
@thedankoe → Learning from the best
Success leaves clues, and on social media, those clues are easy to see.
Look at the big brands that you want to emulate and analyse their:
• Content structures
• Hook structures
• Word choices
• Messaging
Big accounts don’t grow for no reason.
@thedankoe → Prioritising value
It’s incredibly tempting to just throw out platitudes that provide no real value
And yes, you might grow fast with platitudes, but:
Low-quality content attracts a low-quality following.
And as a wise man once said, “likes ain't cash”
@thedankoe → Analysing the game
Some content is going to do better than others:
• Store your good content in a swipe file
• Analyse why it worked
• Ask yourself how you can rewrite it
• Ask yourself what you could add to it
Each piece of content is a bit of data - listen to it
@thedankoe → Chasing mastery
Most people never improve their skills or knowledge base in their niche
Meaning their content gets stale, boring and repetitive
It’s your duty to ↑ your knowledge and skill so that you can link ideas, add more value and improve the lives of your followers
@thedankoe → Making friends
A lot of people “network”
Very few people make friends.
Become a valuable person who creates valuable content and you’ll attract similar people who you can become friends with.
And trust me, this will level up your life and brand much more than “networking”
