📱 7 hours of screen time per day.
That's the global average.
= 127,750 hours over 50 years.
(👇 Here are 7 ways to start taking this time back):
1. No screens while eating
When was the last time you ate a meal alone without looking at a screen?
I know this one seems harmless, but it can quickly snowball into a screen time binge.
Try a "no-phone" rule for at least one meal per day.
2. Turn off autoplay / autoscroll
No resistance.
This is why you want to put on 1 episode of Rick and Morty and end up bingeing a whole season.
Make it harder.
Deactivate autoscroll/autoplay on any apps you can.
3. Set screen time limits
Nearly all devices have options for this in the settings.
If you're really serious:
1. Set a screen time limit on problem apps
2. Let your friend set the password
3. They only give it to you if it's an emergency
4. Log out of accounts when you're finished for the day
Have you ever checked the refrigerator just because you were bored?
It's the same thing with social media.
Remove the option to check by logging out of your accounts when you're done for the day.
5. Put your device into Grayscale mode
Just look at it.
It's hideous.
To do this on iPhone:
- Go to Settings
- "Accessibility"
- "Display & Text Size"
- Scroll down to "Color Filters"
- Change to Grayscale
6. Use mobile websites instead of apps
Apps are built to be easy and addictive.
Sometimes just a slight amount of resistance is enough to keep us from indulging.
An easy way to do this is by deleting unnecessary apps, and only using the mobile websites when you really need.
7. Build a screenless habit
The easiest way to stop a bad habit is by replacing it.
Fill that newly vacant screen time with a constructive hobby.
And make sure it's something you ENJOY.
Some suggestions:
- Cook
- Read
- Write
- Exercise
- Grow something
- Build something
That's a wrap!
