In the early days of the pandemic, virologists and top NIH leaders were also concerned that coronavirus engineering methods used by the UNC and the Wuhan Institute of Virology provided β€œa how-to manual for building the Wuhan coronavirus in a laboratory.”

They were scrutinizing one of the same UNC/Wuhan Institute of Virology papers that the authors of the new preprint are evaluating today.

Virologist Kristian Andersen finally shared the results of his own analysis on Twitter last week. He reached different conclusions than the preprint authors.
But is this line of inquiry totally outrageous?
I don’t think so, given Andersen was once asking the same Qs.
