The Dopamine Detox:
The ultimate "Red Pill" of personal freedom:
If there was one thing in this world I recommend, it would be this technique.
I just finished one yesterday, and needless to say, it did not disappoint.
This one thing alone will change your life if done at least monthly:
1) What is it?
A Dopamine Detox is when you deliberately abstain from high amounts of stimuli for a period of time.
Examples of stimuli are:
-Your Phone
-Social Media
-Any type of comfort food
-Your favorite music, or any music at all
The point is to be like a monk.
2) How to do it:
There are a lot of ways to go about it, but here are 4 difficulties for you:
Easy:
-No screen time
-Spend time outside in nature, or socializing
Normal:
-No music
-No screen time
-Isolation to your home
-Only can do goals like cleaning, journaling, meditation, etc.
Hard Mode (What I did yesterday):
-No music
-No screen time
-Fast 24 hours (no food or water)
-Isolation to your home AND no socializing (Basically solitary confinement)
-Goals must be done without electronics or stimuli (ex: I cleaned up the house and wrote Twitter threads
Extreme Mode:
-No music
-No screen time
-Fast 24 hours (no food or water)
-Isolation to your home AND no socializing (Basically solitary confinement)
-Do NOTHING at all or minimal things like meditating, journaling and sleeping
You want to do this for at least 12 hours; let your brain reset.
4) The Benefits
There are variables based on difficulty chosen and the individual themself, but some universal benefits are:
-Decreased stress/cortisol levels
-Increased motivation and drive
-Improved mood and sense of joy
-Improved self control and impulse regulation
-Improved capability to delay gratification and do the tougher, more tedious tasks
You will definitely wanna give this a try.
5) Some tips for helping with Dopamine Detoxes:
-Prepare the night before
-Have a set of goals planned out
-If you recently relapsed on porn addiction or other bad habits, do this ASAP
-Start off small and gradually build up to higher difficulties. Sleep can help as well.
