Son of the great Pallava King Mahendravarman I.
Not much is known about his early Childhood, but it can be clearly guessed that he received the early education (1/8)

Like his father in art and exercises, possibly from Rudracharya, his father's Parivadini.
His father's technique of scooping out temples & shrines from large stones without use of brick, mortar, lime and timber was carried by him further with more refinement. (2/8)
Narasimhavarman I must be of young age by the time Pallavas under his father faced the brunt of Chalukyas led by Pulakeshi II. Though Kanchipuram, the pallava capital was saved, the northern portions were lost to the Chalukyas.

With the accession of Narasimhavarman I, Chalukyas attacked again.
Pallava forces inflicted crushing defeats upon Chalukya forces in battles of Pariyara, Suramara and Manimangala.
In these battles, Narasimhavarman was helped by a cylonese prince Manavarma. (4/8)
Encouraged by the success, Narasimhavarman brought the war to Chalukya territory, with his general Paranjothi.
Here he defeated and killed Chalukya Pulakeshi II and captured their capital, taking the title of Vatapikondan ( the conqueror of Vatapi) (5/8)
His massive Pallava fleet was sent twice to help the cylonese prince Manavarma, winning his throne, the second expedition was successful.

The conflict between two kingdoms was to continue for the next generations to come.
Narasimhavarman I completed all the works left by his father, which are now UNESCO World Heritage sites.
He is one of the great Kings of Bharat who never lost a battle in his life. (7/8)
He was a great wrestler and a fighter and great patron and builder of arts and temples.
A devotee of Shiva.
Xuanzang, visited his court. The great Nayanar saints like Appar, Siruthondar(Paranjothi) and Tirugnanasambandar lived during his reign.
