this is also basically why halloween has caught on around the world, and will continue to catch on despite people complaining about american cultural imperialism or whatever. I used to be iffy about it too but I have accepted its inevitability. it's just too fun to resist
the "product-market fit" of it is too strong. even if mainstream culture in your country hates halloween, you only need a handful of fun-loving kids to test it out amongst themselves and have a great time. then others will want to join in
