i don’t have any thoughts about potential twitter monetization strategies because the way i see it - who cares? twitter has been by far my favorite experience w social media & if that’s inversely correlated to revenue potential (based on twtr earnings power vs meta) then so be it
i was in middle school when all the high schoolers first got facebook, middle schoolers “weren’t allowed” to have FB. never used IG until college & barely post on it. twitter has this like chaotic yet latent magical energy to it that feels like what the internet was meant to be
i remember the FB signup flow being like “enter all your personal information & then tell us all the things you like by liking the page made for that thing” which combined w an exceptionally high bar for engineering talent seems to equal superior returns in the form of ad revenue
i really like the meritocratic nature of being able to post as an anon & being able to engage w anyone else who’s willing to engage on the platform and being judged based on your takes & overall vibe. it’s the digital agora where you can interact w ppl you might‘ve never met irl
maybe elon’s trolling journalists, maybe he’s just bored - the only thing i’m concerned about related to revenue is that the hardworking firefighters & teachers (whose pensions are managed by the private equity professionals participating in the co-invest) earn a reasonable IRR
