πŸ…°οΈπŸ€” Messi's Champions League assists are a source of much confusion, so let's clear things up.
Messi UCL Assists
Opta: 3⃣9βƒ£πŸ…°οΈ
UEFA: 4⃣0βƒ£πŸ…°οΈ
There are a few differences in their counts (shown in red in the table). More detail in the thread... πŸ§΅πŸ‘‡
Opta count 1 that UEFA don't, and UEFA count 2 that Opta don't!
So which assists did they disagree on?
I can't say with 100% certainty, but I'm fairly confident based on my list of non-Opta assists that it's the following...
1) 28th Oct 2020
Juventus 0-2 Barcelona
1st goal for Dembele
βœ… Opta
❌ UEFA
No obvious reason why UEFA wouldn't count this - Dembele’s shot takes a deflection but he is credited with the goal so the assist should stand.

2) 24th Feb 2015
Man City 1-2 Barca
1st goal for Suarez
❌ Opta
βœ… UEFA
2nd phase of play so no Opta assist (Suarez's initial header is blocked by the defender, then he scores)

3) 20th Nov 2012
Spartak 0-3 Barca
1st goal for Dani Alves
❌ Opta
βœ… UEFA
Significantly deflected. Opta will only count deflected assists if the ball was likely to have reached the player without it, which was not the case here.

There is another possibility for the additional 2014/15 assist that UEFA count - Messi has one more non-Opta assist in the final where Suarez scores from Messi's rebounded shot.
However, I believe it's more likely that the Man City one is the one UEFA count.
Finally, I use Opta assists on my site to ensure a consistent criteria across all comps.
Opta's assist criteria is the most widely used (the last touch before a team mate scores a goal).
UEFA are one of the few major organisations that don't use Opta as their data provider.
