1 Keep a half smile when first meeting people
Most of the new people you encounter seem fake at first when they smile while shaking your hands. Smiling is polite, but it doesn’t always seem genuine when you do it for no reason.

A more sophisticated approach is to keep a half-smile. Your face is close to a smile, but it only breaks after something noteworthy from your acquaintance.
This could be:
-Them telling you a story
-When they tell you their name
-When they say something funny

Avoid showing your teeth when you smile.
Smile with your face and lips, you don’t have to open your mouth.

2 Mention their name at least twice
Once, after you’ve introduced yourselves to each other…
“Nice to meet you, John, I’m James.”
…and again when you’re departing, “It was nice meeting you John, hope to see you again”
You can also add one more time during your conversation.

3 Focus on understanding your interlocutor
Pay more attention to what they are saying and less attention to what you want to say. You already know what you want to say, what matters now is understanding your interlocutor. We all love a person who is interested in us.

4 Be polite and speak slowly, not too slowly
You must exude the highest level of good manners and politeness. You must never be in a hurry or rush to say something. IRL, the calmer and slower you are, the more weight your words carry. Avoid being a speech-neurotic.

The only thing you need to watch out for is speaking too slowly. Just as speaking too fast can be unappealing, speaking too slowly can also be unappealing and boring.
Gauge your speed for the occasion, and ensure you’re sitting somewhere in between.

5 Respond before adding
If they just said something about ice skating and you have no experience in that, mention your lack of expertise in it or say something about it before you start talking about tacos. Don’t ignore what people said and go on babbling about your interests

Not listening to your interlocutor is rude and disrespectful.
