You can build an entire business just by “stealing” from other businesses.
The key is doing smart competitor research.
Here’s how to use Google/YouTube to create a profitable company and marketing plan:
🧵
1. See What They Offer
Once you choose a niche, look for successful companies in it and see what they offer.
Maybe that’s a physical product. Maybe it’s software. Maybe it’s services.
Note their offer(s). You’ll be building something similar soon.
2. Read Their Reviews
Reviews are a goldmine.
Those people and people like them are your future customers, and you get to read their thoughts for free.
Look for positive, negative, and mixed ones.
Write down what you find.
3. Emulate The Good
Now it’s time to build your offer.
The first part of that is emulating everything your future competition does well.
If people like the product’s reliability, make sure yours is reliable.
If people like fast shipping speeds, make yours fast too.
4. Improve On The Bad
The second part is improving on what people don’t like.
If they hate the refund guarantee, make yours better.
If a part of the product is uncomfortable, make yours comfortable.
You can also make yours different in some ways, not just better.
5. Look Them Up On SpyFu
This is a great tool for spying on how businesses use paid search and SEO to drive traffic.
In this exercise, we’re gonna use SpyFu to see which keywords they target for paid search, then we’ll use those to do further keyword research.
6. Look Them Up On Ad Libraries
There are a lot more ad types than just paid search, though.
Facebook and TikTok have ad libraries to browse, YouTube is launching one soon, and there are unofficial YouTube ones already.
Write down everything you find: angles, copywriting, etc.
7. Synthesize Into A Website
Now it’s time to get your business rolling.
First, synthesize everything you found into a website.
Make sure it has a clean design, good-looking visuals, killer copywriting, essential pages like customer support, and email marketing set up.
8. Synthesize Into Google/YouTube Ads
Second, you’ll use what you found on SpyFu and in ads libraries to start driving traffic.
Just like with building your offer, take what you learned, tweak it a bit, and make it your own.
9. Keep Optimizing
Following this system will put your 3+ months ahead of most entrepreneurs, but it probably won’t make you instantly profitable.
That will come from consistent testing and optimization.
Do your best, gather data, do it better, repeat.
That’s everything.
