I've sat in hundreds of interviews and I see the same mistakes.
Here are 9 interview tips to make you stand out from the crowd.
Bonus: Free Cheat Sheet.
You got the interview - now breathe.
Companies won't interview you if they don't see you as a potential employee.
Bring your best game - focus on what you can control.
#1.Start with:
◾ Researching the company
◾ Learn more about the open position
◾ Prepare for technical questions if relevant
#2. Prepare your stories
Structure your prepared stories on how you behaved in certain scenarios.
🟢 Tip: When you hear the words "Tell me about a time or give me an example " - the interviewer is expecting a STAR answer.
So what is STAR?
◾ Situation: Give the background.
◾ Task: What was your role
◾ Action: What you did and why
◾ Result: What was the outcome and what did you learn
Let's go through an example:
“Tell me about a time when you performed well under enormous pressure.”
S◾ My coworker had a family emergency and needed to miss work.
T◾ I was instructed to take on his project with a deadline in a few days.
A◾ I delegated my weekly tasks to allow me to focus on this.
R◾ This allowed me to finish it on time and with 100% accuracy.
#3. Prepare your stories for:
◾ Teamwork
◾ Leadership
◾ Handling conflict
◾ Solving a problem
🟢 Tip:
Before you start your STAR story, define what the skill means to you.
Example: Define what leadership means to you then start your STAR story.
#4. Prepare with mock interviews.
Do a few mock interviews with a friend to build your confidence.
🟢 Tip: Practice using this AI tool from Google.

#5: Be professional
Interviewers are human - they judge people by appearance as well.
◾ Sit up straight
◾ Be enthusiastic
◾ Make eye contact
◾ Be dressed appropriately.
◾ Bring a notepad to make you look organized.
🟢 Tip: Video calls do not mean the rules have changed.
#6. Impress in the first five minutes
I usually know in the first five minutes whether the candidate is suitable and look for reasons to confirm this.
◾ Smile and look the interviewer in the eye
◾ Start with a positive comment "I am looking forward to this meeting..."
#7. Tell me about yourself means "Sell yourself"
Include:
◾ Skills
◾ Accomplishments
◾ Why you are the best for this job
🟢 Tip: Always use "I" and not "we" unless you answering a teamwork question.
#8. Listen to the question for keywords and answer appropriately.
◾ Responsible = leadership,
◾ Conflict = handling pressure
◾ Collaboration = communication
◾ Solved a problem = critical thinking, persuasion
#9. Ask intelligent questions
Do not skip this opportunity- it shows your interest.
But more importantly, you also need to find out if this job is right for you.
Don't undersell yourself. Ask questions that are important to you.
# Bonus:
I created this cheat sheet for you to remember important details.
