As per Shiva Purana,this day is very special for worshipping of both Bhagwan vishnu & Shiva. The story begins when bhagwan vishnu decided to visit #Kashi where Shiva was residing, & he then decided to pray Lord Shiva with 1000 Lotus flowers along with 1000 names of Lord Shiva
Lord Vishnu collected 1000 lotus flowers to worship Shiva linga with 1000 names of Shiva, to see the Devotion & dedication lord Shiva decided to take test of Bhagwaan vishnu, as he was fully Absorbed in the devotion of Shiva continually offering lotus flower & chanting Shiva name
When it comes to tune to offer 1000th lotus flower was missed as part of Test & lila then Lord vishnu offered his 1 eye to Lord Shiva, as Lord Vishnu another name is Kamalnaynam ( lotus eyes) by devotes , looking at this devotion & dedication Lord Shiva moved by his bhakti
, Lord shiva not only restored his eye but also offered him Sudarshan chakara as a token of his Bhakti & dedication so that he can fight evil in all three world to establish peace & harmony Jeeva can sustain, that's the reason vishnu is sustainer of 3 world ( palan har)
During this Lord Vishnu worshipped Lord Shiva in lingam form and also considered as day of Kashi vishwanath and Lord Vishnu is alloted with special place in Kashi vishwanath temple, both are worshipped with devootes to attain Moskha.
On this day one should worship Lord Vishnu with 1000 names of Vishnu ( Vishnu Sahasranaam) & should be offered with lotus and Lord Shiva should worshipped with shiva Sahasranaam with bel patra & flower.
