Forecast 1: Functions of the Government will be separated.
Currently the state education department performs several functions: as a policymaker, a regulator, assessor of quality, of postings and transfers, curating textbooks and uniforms and mid-day meals, etc

Given this enormous and never end task list, none of the functions are usually performed well.
The forecast is that the education sector will undergo the same change that happened in many other sectors in our economy. There will be different agencies to manage each aspect!

Example:
The telecom industry has the ministry as policymakers, BSNL and MTNL are state providers along with private ones, then there is a separate regulatory body and another separate tribunal for dispute resolution!
This breakdown of roles is needed in our education system.

Forecast 2: Regulations will be based on outcomes, not inputs.
Currently the focus is on number of books, number of students admitted, school area, type of equipment and the infrastructure. The logic is that if the inputs are right, the output will automatically be excellent!

BUT education is not a like engineering where if all the building blocks are right, the structure will be strong.
Education is built on human agency, motivation and incentives and thus the problems must be solved taken all the human issues into account as well!

Forecast 3: per student funding will be the model for education.
The battle will no longer be whatβs the cost difference between private and state education but it will become about which can provide better value for money.

How much value each school and institution is willing to put in for each student is going to be a game changer!
Currently no one knows how much the gov spends per student at IIT or IIM but once it is stated, the public pressure will push the gov to make necessary reforms.

My forecast:
There will be shift in the way society begins to look at education. It will become more about the worth we bring to the world rather than just how much we score on test.
There will be a shift in priorities which will pressure the system to make necessary changes!
