1. Make a commitment
YouTube success doesn’t happen overnight
But it will happen if you don’t quit
Before you start promise you will make at least 100 videos
Once you hit 100 promise yourself 100 more…
2. Create a content system
It’s critical you understand your role on your channel
Will you do all the work, some or it or none at all?
What are you good at and what can you outsource?
The best creators leverage their strengths and hand off their weaknesses
3. Repurpose your content
Making videos can feel strenuous at times
Knowing you can use your content in multiple ways eases the strain
You can:
- Post scripts on a blog
- Turn videos into Shorts
- Post clips on IG and TikTok
One video can make you money in several ways…
4. Study your analytics
YouTube gives you all the tools you need to be successful
You just need to use them
Study your:
- Audience retention
- First 30 second performance
- End screen CTR
Also assess if your traffic is coming from search, browse or suggested…
5. Don’t neglect titles and thumbnails
Views are the gateway to more subscribers and income
Without clicks you will never get either
Spend as much time on titles and thumbnails as the rest of your video
It sounds crazy but it works…
6. Respond to all comments
Responding to comments is powerful for three reasons:
1. Increases engagement on your videos
2. Creates connection with audience
3. Turns viewers into customers
Ignore the haters and nurture your fans
7. Tell stories
Stories are the ultimate viewer retention hack on YouTube
People are hardwired to enjoy stories and want to see how they end
Create videos around a story or use stories as a complement to your core ideas
This is the #1 skill to have on YouTube
8. YouTube is trial and error
There is no “best” strategy for anything on YouTube
Continually test:
- video ideas
- new titles
- thumbnail designs
What you do now may work but what you might do could work better…
9. You need to sell
Most channels make little money because they only rely on ads
This is a HUGE mistake
Especially if you’re in a niche with a low RPM
Selling will 10x your income
Here’s a comparison to illustrate what I mean…
Ad Revenue:
50,000 views x $10 RPM = $500
Product Sales:
50,000 views x 0.1% conversion x $100 product = $5,000
Affiliate Offer:
50,000 views x 1% conversion x $10 sign up commission= $5,000
Even with a small channel you can make a full-time income on YouTube
