"Ravan was neither a monster nor a flesh eater. All that those bad poets (Valmiki & others) have described, is a lie."
- Lord Mahavir, quoted by a Jain disciple in Padma Charitam (Jain #रामायणम्), 3.15
Earlier Jain writers were Ravan lovers and have hatred for Valmiki.
Reason behind this hatred for Valmiki and Vaidik philosophy by Jains was to propagate Jain doctrines and convert people into Jain fold.
Literature and famous/revered personalities of Hinduism were probably on their target.
Aim of composing the earliest Jain Ramayanam was 👉🏼
Absurdities, inconsistencies and exaggerations believed by Jains in Valmiki Ramayanam were these 👉🏼
Motive is to malign Valmiki, falsify his narrative and insert Jain elements as per wishlist.
Vimalasuri, composer of first Jain Ramayanam, was first a propagandist than a poet.
Jain Ravan as per Jain Ramayanam.
• He was a pious and devout Jain who built/restored Jain shrines.
• He avoided हिंसा as far as possible.
• He set his enemies free after the victory and also restored them to their kingdom.
This is a common feature in all Jain Ramayanas.
Hatred towards Vaidik traditions/philosophy and especially ब्राह्मण as they were the protector and torch bearers of it, is evident in Jainism since inception.
Goal of creating Jain Ramayanam was also to erase all Vaidik essense.
