Dear @NewYorker
Sigh. Again with the idiotic yoga jokes. Indigenous knowledge traditions are not your punchline and, besides, the yoga jokes are stale. You can do better than casual Hinduphobia.
Yoga is Hindu, not Egyptian.

If you're going to use βyogaβ to make a joke about the decline of the US, thereβs no need to erase Hindu civilizations, which predate ancient Egypt. Some of them were thousands of years old. (Maybe thatβs the rub.) THEY ARE THE ACTUAL SOURCE OF YOGA.
Maybe read a history book before posting about history next time. Have the decency and the historical accuracy to name ancient Hindu civilizations. Here, I got you started. (There are many more.)
Pre-Harappan β c. 7000 - c. 5500 BCE (1500 years)
Early Harappan β c. 5500 - 2800 BCE (2700 years)
Mature Harappan β c. 2800 - c. 1900 BCE (900 years)
Late Harappan β c. 1900 - c. 1500 BCE (400 years)
Post Harappan β c. 1500 - c. 600 BCE (900 years)
Early Harappan β c. 5500 - 2800 BCE (2700 years)
Mature Harappan β c. 2800 - c. 1900 BCE (900 years)
Late Harappan β c. 1900 - c. 1500 BCE (400 years)
Post Harappan β c. 1500 - c. 600 BCE (900 years)
Note: Researchers published an article in Nature magazine 2016 revising the dates of the Pre-Harappan and Early Harappan Civilizations to 9000 - 8000 BCE and 8000 - 7000 BCE.
