Zulu 'the people of the heavens' are the largest ethnic group of South Africa, with an estimated 10 million Zulu residents in KwaZulu-Natal. ISIZULU is the language of the Zulu people and about 10 million residents are fluent in the language
The annual ceremony, known as the
"uMkhosi Womhlanga/the Zulu reed dance" is a ceremony that that is celebrated by all the maidens in celebration of sexual purity, the highlight is the Reed giving ceremony, where maidens get blessing from the Zulu King

The king encourages the maidens to stay Pure and also give gifts to those who are soon to get married, congratulating them for staying pure up to that period.Elderly women check if maidens are still pure,using the traditional way which is called (ukuhlola), then once you've been

Maidens are supposed to wear white beads only and reveal their breast as a sign to show purity but then times change and there's modern ways of doing things now so different beads are used but breasts revealed when attend the maiden ceremonies
But if theyโre attending events like uMkhosi KaNomkhubulwano theyโre forced to wear white beads only, because that is when they pray for protection as virgins, pray to get more jobs, pray to see every dream that theyโre working on come to fruition
Furthermore if a young woman who is not a virgin takes part in the reed-dance ceremony, her reed will break. Shows how powerful the Zulu culture is as it's based on spirituality and power of the ancestors.
