Should you visit Uzbekistan?
A thread ๐Ÿงต
Transport: We landed in Tashkent and travelled to Bukhara and then from Bukhara to Samarkand via train. The service was on time and comfortable. The Uzbek government have tried to ensure all airports and train stations have prayer facilities.
City vibes: The cities feel very safe and locals told me they don't feel unsafe walking outside at night. The main roads are very well maintained and clean. There's literally no trash that can be seen. The main cities are well developed and modern.
The people: The Uzbek people are very friendly and welcoming and have great mannerisms. They were happy to see tourists and conveyed salams at every opportunity. They would put their hand on their chest to welcome their fellow brothers and sisters in faith.
Islam: Uzbekistan has a 90% Muslim population. Despite Soviet rule & repression of Islam in recent years, there seems to be a revival of Islam taking place. The Muslims here have a deep love for Islam here. We visited a Madrassah which has 200 students who are becoming scholars.
History: Uzbekistan is full of Islamic history and has numerous landmarks and monuments. The mosques and madrassahs are breathtaking. Photos don't do justice. You have to experience it for yourself.
Food: There are plenty of halal restaurants which do not serve alcohol. Traditional Uzbek food is delicious and can be described as something in between Persian and Afghan food. They also serve horse meat if you wanted to give it a try ๐Ÿด๐Ÿ‘€.
In conclusion, we would definitely recommend that you add Uzbekistan to your bucket list.
Imam Al-Bukhari is known by the entire Muslim Ummah but his country of birth is still relatively unknown. The Uzbek people would love more visitors and are welcoming people with open arms.
