Hot take
Concern with purity/gatekeeping of traditions are outcomes of trad societies where conservation of anything required great तपस्या / care given high fragility
Modernity conserves knowledge through scale. E.g. Undirected trading by millions arrives at "right" stock price
I don't think this is sufficiently appreciated
Modernity is ALL about scale. That's why it can tolerate so much nonsense all around it.
The slightest bad habit could destroy civilizations pre-modernity...modernity can simply digest it as good flushes out bad
E.g.
With youtube around, you never need to fear the loss of even niche traditions..
Even the most obscure vedic shAkhAs can get a life of their own through uploads. And you never need to fear them dying out
Now some argue -
Modernity causes the "museum"-ification of knowledge encoded in traditions
I think that's true of the early forms of modernity.
E.g. 19th cen innovations like museums, exhibitions, encyclopedias
But modernity to its credit, has moved on since...
It's latest products like the internet and the cloud, enable superior conservation that was not possible with those 19th cen innovations
