In all this discussion regarding Vedādhikāra, one thing is clear. Those who oppose the restrictions are only concerned with their own agency. They see Śruti & Smṛti as just insentient sets of sounds & sentences, not as Divine Persons with their own agency & sovereignty.
They cannot bring themselves to ask, “What does the Śruti or Smṛti want of me?”. It’s all about “this book, I want to be able to do with it what I want”.
Bhakti is not visiting a temple because you want to. Bhakti is not visiting one of Muruga’s holiest shrines as a zealous Kaumāra because Skanda forbade you from visiting that particular shrine.
The same goes with the attitude towards Śāstras.

Some would have gotten the reference to the famous Muruga bhakta.
