this is a great read for anyone who cares abt the future & probably should be mandatory for people in charge of public policy. after the first chapter it becomes painfully apparent how badly we need people in charge who understand both the physical & economic realities of energy
the book discusses the history & fundamental mechanics (both economic & physical) of what the author describes as the pillars of the modern world - energy, food, materials & globalization. it takes a scientific & sober look at our current way of life & implications for the future
i don’t pretend to know anything about these subjects, in fact it’s the opposite - my ignorance abt the details of these mission critical industries is what’s prompting me to try to develop a better understanding of how they work. a friend recommended it to me when i said i was
researching the potential impact of decreased globalization on the semiconductor supply chain & its been incredibly relevant. maybe some of the stuff will be obvious to ppl who already have indepth knowledge about these sectors but i think most ppl will come away w something new
