The Devraj Swami Mandir, an ancient Mandir of Bhawan Vishnu, is located in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu. Bhagwan Vishnu is worshiped in this Mandir in the form of Athi Vardar. It is believed that the divine murti of Bhagwan Athi Vardar was sthapith by Brahmaji himself.
Bhagwan Athi Vardar, who is virajman here, stays inside a pond in sleeping posture for 40 years. After 40 years the Murti of Prabhu is taken out from the pond. Then the Bhagwan gives darshan to his devotees only for 48 days.
Athi Vardar is the only deity whose divine Swaroop can be seen by even the most fortunate people only twice in their entire life. Vishwakarmaji made the murti of Bhagwan Athi Vardar with fig wood.
It is believed that as long as the Prabhu remains in the water, Devguru Brihaspati worships him. The miracle that even after being in water for 40 years, the wooden idol does not deteriorate.
