MMUO AGU [Episode 7]
Two figures materialized by her sides, one of them was a tall man wearing a loincloth and a small cloak. He held a long staff spotting a serrated blade at its tip. His companion was the strangest thing in the place.
Its face was covered with a huge
rectangular mask that extended to its chest. Its body was seemingly made of raffia palms, as they touched the bridge floor and hid what would have been its legs. Wiry strips of red cloth fluttered ominously where hands should have been. The strange mask had eye holes, a large
nose, and a long mouth set in a malicious grin.
"You got an ekpo just for me? I'm impressed," said the mercenary.
"I took every necessary measure to ensure you wouldn't leave here alive, Ogbunabali," she declared.
"Are you yet to understand the comparison I gave you?
Taking the path of an assassin is no way to take revenge on an assassin. You're guilty of the crime you accuse me of," he appealed to her reason.
She remained adamant and ordered the spearman to kill him. The warrior charged their quarry and lunged his weapon at him, to which
the target stepped aside. The mercenary sniffed the air and noted the jagged edges of the blade were laced with poison.
His opponent swung at him once more, but he bent back and finally drew his own machete. They studied themselves for a while, before they clashed at
superhuman speed. Iron gritted against iron, and the clanking sound filled the air about them.
The spearman twirled his staff with expert dexterity, and took deadly long-range swipes at his foe. Said foe parried every offensive strike but found himself unable to reach his
opponent, as the range limitation of his weapon showed.
Their dance of offense and defense continued for a time, until the mercenary slipped deftly past a spear thrust. The spearman inched back to negate the machete's effect, but his opponent didn't aim for him. He swung his
blade at the staff whose tip was behind him and cleaved it in two.
Turning around with the agility of a cat, he caught the deadly half in the air and hurled it back at its wielder. The man held the spear where it had lodged in his throat, and tried to no avail to pull it out
He made gurgling sounds as fresh blood spewed out his mouth in bouts. As he fell to the ground, a new sound graced the scene, the low thumping sound of a drum.
