A friend sent me an IV asking of the marriage is valid because they already have 2 kids and asking why yoruba people do this.
I checked the IV thoroughly and saw walimatul nikkah and told her it means they already did the aqid.
I myself had no knowledge of the separation of
ceremonies of marriage until I went to the south to do my NYSC and I understood the whole aqid nikkah and walima nikkah since I'm from the North. It was new to me.
I began to go back to memory lane of how the northerners who reside in the south come to school and tell us stories
of how some yoruba people do weddings with pregnancy and some do weddings after having 5 kids. Meaning that zina is normal for them.
It them dawned on me that some might have actually done aqid and it was the walima that sent a wrong message to the public.
I then experienced one myself during my service. She was heavily pregnant and that's when they did the walima in an elaborate manner. If I had no knowledge of how they do things, I would have thought they were just getting married and with pregnancy.
I really do not understand why the whole wedding processes have to be divided.
We as muslims shouldn't give room for suspicion.
Now, some people could say that there are muslims who get married with pregnancy and some dubious men could deceive ladies who have no knowledge.
In the era of Internet where pictures fly about anyhow, people will surely think that they have been living together and Committing zina and just decided for get married.
It sends a very wrong notion about the religion and the couple.
