The 4-Hour Work Week changed everything.
But you haven't read it?
Don't worry.
Here's the step-by-step to achieve your dream lifestyle:
1. Decide what you want to do
Tim calls this process "Dreamlining".
List 5 things:
- You want to HAVE
- You want to DO
- You want to BE
Be specific.
Ok.
Now choose 4 of them.
The others will only serve as distractions from your main priorities.
(continued)
Next, come up with 3 actionables for each dream:
- One you can do today
- One you can do tomorrow
- One you can do the day after tomorrow
Do the first action NOW.
Beat procrastination before it has the chance to start.
2. Streamline your life
If you want to achieve a dream lifestyle, you're going to have to make some sacrifices.
Tim swears by 2 principles to stay laser-focused on what matters:
1. The 80/20 rule (The Pareto Principle)
2. Parkinson's Law
(continued)
80/20 Rule (The Pareto Principle):
Find the 20% of your activities that produce 80% of your results.
If you want to go even further, do it again to find the 20% of THOSE activities.
Eventually you'll be left with the highest impact activities.
(continued)
Parkinson's Law:
"Work will expand to fill the time allotted for its completion."
Remember when you finished that final paper in one night before the deadline?
That's the law in effect.
Basically, give yourself less time to do tasks.
3. Create and automate your business
Step 1:
Brainstorm niche markets
- A market you're familiar with
- A market with demand for a product
Step 2:
Brainstorm products
- Information products = low start-up cost
- Find a problem that you are capable of solving for others
(continued)
Step 3:
Test your product ideas
- Reach out to your target audience to gage interest
- Use a tool like SurveyMonkey
(surveymonkey.com)
- Study your competition (what sets you apart?)
(continued)
Step 4:
Automate your business
This section of the book is a bit dated IMO.
Basically, if you're selling a digital product in 2022, all you really need is a Gumroad account to automate it.

So instead, I'm going to give you a list of people to check out who are masters of this:

4. Start living your new life
Tim suggests that after you have successfully launched your new automated business, you take some time to enjoy your new life.
- Spend time in a new country
- Revisit your dreams and timelines
- Practice doing "nothing" for a while
To summarize:
1. Decide what you want to do
2. Streamline your life
3. Create and automate your business
4. Start living your new life
